Priorities

by Steven Keeler

"I have esteemed the words of his mouth more than my necessary food." (Job 23:12)

Nothing is more important than having proper priorities: "Don't make a mountain out of a molehill!" "Stop majoring on minors!" Christ warned of those who "strain at a gnat, but swallow a camel" (Matthew 23:24). In reality, GETTING SAVED is a matter of getting our priorities straight. Believing in CHRIST is likened to a man who  spent all he had to buy a field that he knew contained a treasure (Matthew 13:44-46).

"Set your affections on things above, not on things of the earth." (Colossians 3:12)

Many people never miss an episode of "Who Wants To Be A Millionaire," but those same people can't find time to go to church. Some baseball fanatics know how many times a left handed batter got a hit off a right handed pitcher on a Tuesday in a night game with a south wind, but they cannot name the books of the BIBLE.

The average American teenager knows all the words to Britney Spears' last ten hits, but how many can name the 10 commandments? Even for the believer, the Christian life is all about keeping the priorities straight.

"Esteeming the reproaches of Christ greater riches than the treasures of Egypt." (Hebrews 11:26)

We have no problem getting up at 4am to go on a camping trip and come home smelling like fish bait, but find it hard to roll out of bed for 10 o'clock church. We can be very bold to yell at the kids when they get in front of the TV during our favorite program, but how bold are we when it comes time to tell others about JESUS?

"Lay not up for yourselves treasures upon earth, where moth and rust doth corrupt, and where thieves break through and steal: But lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust doth corrupt, and where thieves do not break through nor steal." (Matthew 6:19-20)

We know the names of all the movie stars, but how many BIBLE verses have we memorized? We can find time for work and school and shopping and TV, but find ourselves too busy to read the BIBLE daily.

"Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him." (1 John 2:15)

Through BIBLE STUDY we can understand GOD and make His priorities our priorities

(Isaiah 55:8; Luke 16:15)
