Days of Our Lives

As most of you already know, Days of Our Lives is a popular daytime soap opera on TV.  Sometimes our lives can feel like a soap opera too!  Okay, so maybe we don't have an evil twin who somehow came back from the dead after twenty years, but we do have some chaos in our lives from time to time.  We have bills to pay, kids to feed, relatives to visit, jobs to go to, exams to study for, and the house to clean.  There never seems to be enough time to do all that we want.

Trying to juggle all these things can make us feel stressful and unhappy.  Pretty soon we start to worry that we'll never get anything done and worry that our lives are out of control.  In Matthew chapter 6, Jesus tells us, "Therefore I say to you, do not worry about your life; what you will eat or what you will drink; nor about your body, what you will put on.  Is not life more than food and the body more than clothing?"

What are the things that are important in your life? Your children? School? Your spouse? When something is important to us, we make time for it.  Every morning when we wake up, we mentally make a list of all the things that need to get done today--we set priorities. Everyone's list is different.  If you are still in school, you think of all the tests or homework that's due today.  If you work, you may think of what needs to be done before you leave work for the day.  Every situation is different.

One thing that should be the same in all our lives though is putting God at the top of our list of priorities.  How can we do that?  We can pray and talk to God.  We can read our Bible and learn what He wants from our lives.  We can also tell others about Jesus and His loving sacrifice that allows us to be saved from hell.  Whatever we do, putting God first before anything else is the best decision we can make.  If you are the head of your family, you can start by setting an example and putting the Lord first in your life and in your family's lives.  And the Lord will bless!  The Bible tells us, "But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you." (Matthew 6:33).  Don't make your life into a soap opera.  Find out what God wants for your life, and He will give you all you need.
